The International Art Festival on Mueca Street, organized by the City Council's Department of Culture and the Cómplices Platform, is undoubtedly one of the cultural events of the year in the Canary Islands. The fifteenth edition will take place over four days, from May 11 to 14, in some of the main locations in Puerto de la Cruz. Companies such as Karcocha, Circ Bover, Puja, Osadía or Producciones Yllana, among many others, make up a line-up brimming with artistic quality and which is the only opportunity to see the best and most up-to-date of street theater and circus, among other disciplines, from inside and outside the Islands, in Tenerife.
Mueca re-emerges as a main project within the cultural policy of the northern municipality, integrated within the Puerto de la Cruz 2020 Cultural Strategy, along with other great shows such as Phe Festival, Periplo Festival, Puerto Street Art, the Agatha Christie Festival or the Porto edition of Canarias Jazz & Más. Throughout its years of existence, Mueca has also consolidated its international projection, also becoming a top-level tourist attraction.
Puerto de la Cruz will be, one more year, a great open-air stage, on which an influx of more than 60,000 spectators is expected. Thus, the important activity that takes place in the Plaza de Europa (CaixaBank-Fundación CajaCanarias Space), Plaza del Charco (Loro Parque Nicko) and the esplanade of the Pier (Espacio Aqualia) – the latter, divided into two to host a great show of aerial theater - will be completed with the actions that will be carried out in Creativa Street (C/ Mequinez), De la Word (C/ La Hoya), Del Ingenio (C/ San Juan), De la Música (Paseo San Telmo ), Del Movimiento (C/Quintana/Plaza de la Iglesia), as well as the Castillo, Timanfaya, Avenida or Agustinos spaces. All the information can now be consulted through the website: www.festivalmueca.com.
Mueca's programming will bring to Puerto del Cruz important local, national and international shows of street theatre, dance, music, circus and plastic arts. Within a quality and diverse offer, stands out numbers such as the one starring the Spanish-Argentine company Puja, with its play 'Quixote', a theatrical production that includes live music and aerial acrobatics and which is nominated for the 2016 MAX Awards as best street show; 'El Coche', created by the Chilean Karcocha, transforms urban spaces into a circus of laughter thanks to its power of play and improvisation; or the a cappella musical comedy proposed by the Madrid company Yllana with its work 'The Primitals', a benchmark in gestural humor theatre, with twenty-five years of experience in the country.
Once again, Mueca is also the space where some of the best current Canarian productions will be shown; the case of Abubukaka, one of the most acclaimed forms in previous editions, which premieres this year with its new show 'Cuneta Deluxe' in three performances; Burka Theater, with the play 'Romeo and Juliet. Verona lovers visit Mueca'; Lacura, by Bibiana Monje and her company Impulso, or Reymala, with her street proposal 'Stronger'.
Music and dance will also have their important part of protagonism. Thus, during the four days of activity you can enjoy performances by groups such as Nana Rue, Airam Ramos, the 101 Brass Band, Regina Zerené, Tenerife Danza Lab and Carlota Mantecón, among many others.
