The International Street Art Festival will once again turn the streets of Puerto de la Cruz into a large open-air stage.

Puerto de la Cruz will host from May 10 to 13 the celebration of the sixteenth edition of the International Street Art Festival 'Mueca'. Thus, one more year this international event with the performing arts will take over the main arteries of the northern municipality to give life to one of the most successful and popular creative showcases in the Canary Islands.

Mueca repeats its philosophy of turning some of the streets of the tourist town into a large open-air stage in which shows starring artists from different parts of the planet will come to life, once again becoming a national and international point of reference for four days. for the performing arts. In this sense, the Councilor for Culture of Puerto de la Cruz, Sandra Rodríguez, points out “that year after year our city is involved and exudes the same joy and artistic spirit that has made this festival a great international event. Mueca is already an element
inseparable from Puerto de la Cruz and the culture in the Canary Islands”.

Mueca will once again be a rich meeting point for lovers of theater and street arts in all its aspects. Its bases continue to be a diverse and high-level artistic proposal that also allows enjoyment for the whole family. The acceptance among the Canarian public and those who travel to the island to enjoy its offer during the 4 days of activity, in addition to the high quality of its proposal, has made its popularity even transcend the Spanish borders.

In this sense, the report 'Culture Observatory. Culture in Spain 2017' of the Fundación Contemporánea recognized in its latest report the contribution of Mueca as one of the most outstanding cultural events in the Canary Islands community, thus rewarding the effort, artistic quality and cultural innovation of its proposal in the Islands.

The organization has already made public the image that will accompany the 2018 edition. On this occasion, the 'grimace' has been chosen as an identifying element, with the intention of also returning to the base and showing the very essence of the Festival. A concept that offers a longer journey and with which it is also intended to work in future editions, involving the school community of the northern municipality in the same way.

The International Festival of Street Art also sets as an objective for this year and as a basis for growth for future editions the integration of each of its parts in a more sustainable management model, with rigorous care in waste management and generation of the least possible number of disposable elements, in addition to better planning of public transport to make the areas where the shows take place more accessible.
