The 'Mueca' International Street Art Festival will again bring together more than 60,000 people in the main arteries and squares of Puerto de la Cruz during the four days of its sixteenth edition (10, 11, 12 and 13 may). For this 2018 the organization has further intensified its work and objectives in relation to sustainability efforts. Mueca, in addition to reaffirming itself each year as one of the main cultural events in the Canary Islands, also aspires to be an optimal model in matters of sustainability.
One of the main concerns of the Festival is to achieve the best possible relationship with transport. For this reason, in addition to the usual parking areas in Puerto de la Cruz and recommending the use of public transport, during the four days of the celebration several extra parking areas will be set up from which activities can be accessed in a comfortable way. without having to suffer long queues and problems to park the vehicles. These zones are located in the Caso Botánico Health Center, Los Cachazos Zone in El Durazno and Sector 6 Zone in La Paz. In addition, specific parking for bicycles has also been enabled.
Under the same prism of sustainability, Mueca is committed to guaranteeing a global and correct management of waste, both
generated by the festival's own activity as well as those of the people who come to enjoy these days of street art. For this reason, the organization has redoubled its efforts in placing recycling containers and public toilets so that all the attending public find the greatest facilities to make use of them.
One of the novelties this year is the integration of Mueca within the program of Violet Territory Festival, a show that will reward the show scheduled during these days of activity in Puerto de la Cruz that best promotes gender equality. The selected one, in addition, will participate in this initiative together with other companies chosen equally among the most outstanding national fairs and festivals.
On the other hand, the Festival, one more year, has the direct support of dozens of businesses that are grouped within the
called local Cómplices Mueca, which in addition to an economic contribution, give color to the streets of the city
wearing the official t-shirts and merchadaising. This type of support plays an important role in the development of the Festival and the organization invites the public to discover what these venues are through the badge that identifies them and to collaborate with them.
