The Mueca International Street Art Festival celebrates its seventeenth edition from May 9 to 12 in Puerto de la Cruz joining efforts to minimize its environmental footprint and reduce the impact of transport, waste, energy while promoting awareness of the public with good eco-sustainable practices. In this way, Mueca aspires, one more year, to place itself on the map of sustainable events and festivals.
One of the measures that allows CO2 emissions to be reduced is the minimization of transport. The festival continues to advise the use of public transport as a mobility alternative for attendees who come to enjoy street art in Puerto de la Cruz. Thus, to access the activities in a comfortable way without having to suffer long queues and problems parking vehicles, TITSA will extend its usual services to Puerto de la Cruz, reinforcing until 11:00 p.m. lines 102, 103, 104 from Santa Cruz; the 345 from La Orotava; 352, 353 and 390 from Los Realejos; 325 from Santiago del Teide; 363 from Buenavista and Icod; and 343 from Los Cristianos. The taxi service, both Cooperativa San Telmo and Servitaxi, will also be increased from Thursday to Sunday, as an efficient option for short journeys around the city and its surroundings.
In addition to the usual parking areas in Puerto de la Cruz and the spaces provided for parking vehicles in outlying areas during the four days of the celebration – located in the Caso Botánico Health Center, dock esplanade, Hotel Turquesa Annex and Sector 6 Zone in La Paz– As a novelty this year, there will be a special bus service every 20 minutes from the access to the free and guarded parking area located in Los Cachazos in El Durazno, next to Luis Rodríguez Figueroa street, to the entrance of Calle Zamora, with a maximum cost of €1.45 each way. Those who choose to use bicycles will have parking available in the perimeter of the festival.
In this edition, Mueca will also have the launch of several activities that will carry out a work of sustainable pedagogy and stimulate participation among its public. Hand in hand with the Red Cross, the ODS exhibition will be installed on Agustín de Betancourt street. This is the first image bank 'without rights' related to the Sustainable Development Goals, thus offering a human rights approach. In addition, Tenerife + Sustainable, a project promoted by the Cabildo de Tenerife, will organize games and dynamic activities for the whole family in this same place in order to raise awareness about the need to care for the environment.
The selective collection of waste generated by the thousands of attendees is another of the festival's concerns. As in previous editions, Mueca wants to guarantee a global and correct management of waste, both generated by the festival's own activity and by the people who come to enjoy the most innovative, committed and exciting street art proposals. For this reason, the organization has redoubled its efforts in placing recycling bins and public restrooms in order to provide greater and better comfort to attendees in terms of services.
In its efforts to adopt efficient environmental practices, most of Mueca's programming this year takes place during daytime hours, which allows it to reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.
In this seventeenth edition, the Mueca International Street Art Festival consolidates its collaborative nature with a model of cultural management and citizen participation shared between the Tenerife Island Council, the Puerto de la Cruz City Council and the Cómplices Mueca platform, a structure that defines its essence and for which it has received numerous international awards. Among the collaborators and sponsors highlighted in this edition are Auditorio de Tenerife, Turismo de Tenerife, Government of the Canary Islands, Urban Consortium for the Rehabilitation of Puerto de la Cruz, Ashotel, Fundación Loro Parque, Fundación CajaCanarias, Fundación Bancaria La Caixa, Aqualia and Toyonorte.
