The mayor of Puerto de la Cruz, Marco González, together with the territorial director of CaixaBank in the Canary Islands, Juan Ramón Fuertes, and the delegate of the “la Caixa” Foundation in the Canary Islands, Mauricio González, have inaugurated this Thursday The show begins. Georges Méliès and the cinema of 1900, an exhibition that explains the birth of cinema and pays tribute to who has been considered the first illusionist in cinema.
The exhibition takes visitors to a fair at the turn of the century, with its barracks and party atmosphere, and discovers what the world and leisure was like at that time, as well as the keys to understanding the importance of Georges Méliès.
The installation of this exhibition in the municipality is part of the programming of the 20th edition of the International Festival of Art in the Street of Cross port, Mueca, thus valuing collaborative work between the public and the private, in such a way that a transversal and sustainable framework is established to enrich the cultural and creative ecosystem where the public is a participant and disseminator of knowledge. The mayor wanted to thank la Caixa for this unique opportunity "which we offer to Porto inhabitants and our visitors to enjoy an exceptional exhibition that speaks of the birth of cinema, the seventh art, which is collected and explained here in an exquisite way".
