The International Festival of Street Art in Cross port Mueca goes beyond the mere exhibition in its twentieth edition. This 2022 there will be proposals that will turn citizens into artists who are members of the festival that will be held from May 5 to 8.

Javier Rodríguez with 'Payaso', Judit Mendoza with 'VOID-embracing the void' and Paula Quintana with 'Sagrario' are the captains of three initiatives that involve, in some cases, the people of Porto and the audience of Mueca en general.

In the case of Javier Rodríguez, who defines himself as a cultural manager, the monologue 'Clown' is part of 'From the seat to the scene' and 'Spectacion'. With this latest initiative, three meetings and spaces are initially opened to the public in Mueca: the setting up of a scenic space, a personal meeting with the cast of a company and, finally, attending a rehearsal. "With this experience we are testing if the public is interested in this type of content," says Rodríguez.

Parallel to this project, Javier Rodríguez is proposed to do theater. “I am not an actor, I have never done theater. But as an assistant to practically all the editions of Mueca, as a cultural manager and as a participant in Cómplices Mueca, I have been proposed to take this step towards the scenic space”, he says. Thus, the monologue 'Payaso', directed by Carmen Cabeza, can be seen on Friday 6 and Saturday 7 May at 6:00 p.m. in the San Felipe castle space and includes a subsequent dialogue between its creators and the public.

The intention of this participatory proposal is to continue in future editions and for the public to take the step towards the stage as Javier Rodríguez has done.

For her part, Judit Mendoza will be at the twentieth edition of Mueca with 'VOID-embracing the void' by the company MoBBAA. Specifically, Mendoza's proposal has a preliminary workshop that “will provide the opportunity to grow the artistic proposal. A space for exchange will be generated between the older people of Puerto de la Cruz and our cast, very enriching for creation”, he assures.

“It is not usual for older people to have the opportunity to expose themselves on stage with contemporary dance proposals. In our case, we have a cast of three ladies and four men from 60 to 82 years old”, explains the dancer. In addition, this will allow "the city that welcomes us to understand and feel the piece as its own, thus sowing our seed in Mueca", he concludes.

'VOID-embracing the void' can be seen on Saturday, May 7 at 8:30 p.m. in the universe of movement.

To finish, the third participatory proposal is carried out by the dancer Paula Quintana. 'Sagrario' will have a previous workshop carried out by women from Puerto de la Cruz. These will be in the final performance that will be on Sunday, May 8 at 12:30 p.m. in the universe of movement.

For Quintana, this prior process “is indivisible from the final result. It is interesting and important to take advantage of the large number of people who pass through this festival", he explains and goes on to say that "for me it is tremendously enriching and necessary to be able to share my work with people who are not art professionals because they enrich my work: I question and they make me refine both the contents and the representations”.
